Jeremy wanted to surprise me this year with a big trip so he told me what to pack and on Friday we went out to a delicious dinner at Franck's, it's a french restaurant up in salt lake. It's gorgeous and since it was our anniversary they put us right by a window and with the snow and lights it was gorgeous and absolutely delicious.
Jeremy slipped at dinner and spilled the beans....SAN FRANCISCO!!! I was so excited, and it worked out because it was more fun to find out at dinner than it would have been printing our tickets at the airport. Somehow despite multiple family members slipping up earlier that day I managed not to hear a thing until Jeremy told me at dinner ;P. We boarded our plane and off we went! And I was all too happy to say goodbye to this...
We got in late so didn't start our trip until the next day. We decided to spend our first day down at Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39. We started with a delicious breakfast, crepes of course(I may be slightly obsessed), and then we walked around the pier shopping for souvenirs for the little wheezles.
THEY
WERE DELICIOUS. Yes I got two. No I did not eat it all...barely lol. It
was so good and I couldn't choose between the two!!! One is bananas,
strawberries and nutella (my signature favorite). The other was one I'd
never seen before, Ghiradelli's chocolate and strawberries. OMG
DELICIOUSNESS. It was seriously so good I wish I could have their cook
live with us and make these everyday. Except then I would probably gain a
million pounds.
Stopped to watch a magic show, it wasn't very good but the guy was funny ha
Down to see the famous seals. They have these floating piers just for the seals so they are always hanging out there. Sometimes they are all covered with them but when we went there were just a few...lol.
This guy was a loner. And quite full of himself, he kept posing haha.
The one picture we got someone to take of us, good thing it's a good one :)
After picking up some souvenirs we had some time before dinner and because my husband knows just how much I love aquariums (seriously, I prefer Sea World to any other theme park in Florida that's how much I love aquariums.) we decided to go to the one on the Pier.
We went through a shark tube and it had some really cool sharks and sting rays and some pretty big ones but my foot decided to start cramping really bad all the way through the tube so I don't have any pictures except this unimpressive one. Sigh. Sad thing? That wasn't even the worst of my cramps but I'll get to that later.
The package we got for the aquarium came with a ticket to the cruise that tours the bay so after the aquarium we hopped over to the cruise. I tried to get as good of pictures as I could but it was PACKED (having your anniversary right in between Christmas and New Years pretty much guarantees that anywhere we go will always be packed on our anniversary.), and people don't care that I'm six months pregnant and can barely keep my balance on the ship let alone that I'm trying to get pictures.
Normally I HATE selective coloring because it's SO overdone and most people don't know how to do it so it looks stupid, but this was one of those very rare instances where I knew it would just make this picture pop. And that International Orange (yes that is apparently it's official color name).
We also rode around Alcatraz which was actually pretty cool to see
We grabbed a cab and hopped over to a street mall to get some dinner at Mamacita's. It was AMAZING. It had the best enchiladas I have ever had in my life and that's saying something because Jeremy loves mexican so we go try new places all the time. Jeremy got some carnitas tacos which he also said were the best tacos he's ever had. If you ever go to San Francisco and like mexican food you have to go there!!
We finished out the day by going to see Les Miserables because Jeremy knows how much I LOVE the music and he wanted to see it with me. It was SO good!! I absolutely loved it, it was different than I expected, the music was so raw but it was beautiful. Definitely will be added to my musical movie collection :)
Here is where the awfulness began... we didn't do a ton of walking but had walked up and down the Pier and apparently it was too much for my pregnant legs. I was kept up all night by charlie horses and leg cramps, it got so bad at one point I worried I had a blood clot and woke Jeremy up tempted to run to the emergency room but I finally got it to stop by changing positions a few times and doing some stretches. It was awful :( I had them for the first two nights I was there but luckily I looked online and found some stretches I could do before bed and didn't have any problems after that.
The next day we went to Union Square which is a big outdoor mall with all the designers and stuff. Can I just add how much it sucks to be in the most awesome mall of all time and not be able to shop for anything because you are huge? LAME. They did have a Zara kids though and I got some ADORABLE stuff for baby girl to be. If you've never looked at their stuff before you definitely should because it's so cute and not very expensive. I found a shirt that I was in love with for Aiden too but they were sold out in the store and online :(.
We found a cute little cafe tucked away in the mall so we grabbed a quick lunch before some more shopping.
Lululemon just teased me with it's adorable stuff that I couldn't try on to see what size I was :(. It was super lame. At this point my legs were KILLING me, between the walking the day before and walking around for blocks through the mall I was dead on my feet(thus the no pictures, it was taking all my concentration to put one foot in front of the other. Pregnancy sucks sometimes). China Town was right there though so we decided to go see that too. After seeing a block of it I think I got the gist of it and was really over it (not my thing I guess? It was just a bunch of dinky souvenir shops with chinese stuff thrown in there), but I knew Jeremy was having fun so I tried to suffer through it(it would have been fine if I wasn't pregnant but my legs were DONE). It was 6 blocks long and I was about in tears and somehow we both had missed the street to our hotel (which is on Nob Hill which is a ginormous hill by the way. SUCK FEST.). Jeremy offered to get me a cab but I knew it was only like 6 more blocks to the hotel so it seemed dumb to grab a cab just for that but my legs were shaking by the time we got back so I probably should have, it would have been worth the $5.
While I rested in the lounge with some delicious cucumber and strawberry water, Jeremy went and asked the concierge what we could do that wouldn't involve any walking. So we decided to hop on an open top double decker bus and take a tour of the city. It was actually a lot of fun and really interesting and my legs were eternally grateful. It was crazy to see how different the different districts of the city were and our tour guide was really funny.
City capitol.
I was so in love with all the Victorian houses. Too bad they are 7 million dollars...
We also got to ride across Golden Gate bridge which was fun minus the traffic that made it take two hours. (nope not kidding, a 2 hour tour turned into a 4 hour tour)
By the time we got back to the city it was dark so that's all the pictures I have but it was fun. We had a little bit of time to kill before dinner so I wanted to go into Saks. It was really weird. It wasn't like any other department store, the sections were almost set up like runways with open spaces in front of mirrors with just sporadic racks of clothes. Jeremy didn't understand why I hadn't wanted to go in the Burberry store since he hears me talk about how much I love there stuff all the time until he saw the $2000+ price tags on their clothes. HA! We went out to dinner at Finos because we were both craving Italian and it was close. It was really good and a good end to the night. We got some desserts to go and took them back to the hotel to watch a movie in our room where my legs could really rest.
It was such a fun trip, leg cramps and exhaustion and all. We haven't done a trip like that since Vegas a couple years ago and that wasn't as fun because I had all my photography workshops. We were sad to leave but excited to get back to our little guy at home who we were missing. He seemed to have fun while we were gone though having a sleepover with Nana and Papa and his cousins. He has had a bit of trouble since we got back, I think leaving him traumatized him a bit. He keeps panicking any time we leave the room saying he was so sad because he missed us and asking us to please not go bye bye again. Poor kid is going to be really traumatized when we go to Maui for a week in 6 weeks...(followed by a new baby sister arriving ~5 weeks after that...my poor 3 year old is about to have his world changed forever...will he ever forgive us?)
