I know that's a book/movie but it's the perfect title for this story. It all started in December. We had painters come out and give us quotes for having our house painted in the spring/summer. I hadn't picked the colors yet so I said I wanted a white for the trim, blue and beige for the walls. We got a quote, picked our painter and waited. Over the months I picked out the colors and then I contacted the painters and got us on the schedule. I sent them a few emails and left a phone message with the colors and we were supposed to meet on Saturday to go over everything. Unfortunately they had a family emergency and were not able to come out so they showed up Monday to paint : unfortunate event #1. When they showed up Monday we had come down with the flu of death (seriously worst flu of my life, we were sick for days) and so we were out of it and my brain was just concentrating on not puking on them : unfortunate event #2. I signed the contract (which was just the quote from December - BEFORE we had picked the colors) and briefly went over everything. When I had gone to Sherwin Williams they had given me a book of "whites" and I picked one. So when the painters said "white trim" I assumed they meant the "white" I had picked out : unfortunate event #3. The next day they were there I was feeling better but concentrated on keeping Aiden out of the way. After the painters were gone I finally looked at the color...and it was wrong. It was a cool WHITE white and I had picked a warm barely off white that would go with our warmer house colors better. I called them and long story short it was going to cost more and take longer. I was not happy :( : unfortunate event #4. The painters caught our sickness and had to take 3 days off : unforunate event #5. They came back and did some more painting. Then the painter's mother passed : unfortunate event #6 (I was completely understanding about all this, like I said it's just a series of very unfortunate events). Then they came back and finished the painting. The paint doesn't match the samples : unfortunate event #7. Luckily it still looks pretty, it's just not what I had originally pictured. The painters ended up finding the emails and taking full responsibility for the white color issue so it didn't cost us any extra so there is that. Basically it was a very long 2 weeks but the house looks pretty.
playing in the garage so we were out of the painters way. this is what happens when Aiden gets really close to the camera, his eye is out of focus lol.
And here is the paint. Before and after.
BEFORE: off - white walls(which actually are very creamy and almost have a tint of yellow), weird colored trim
before(previous owner's photo)
weird purple stage(except the purple was much brighter and saturated than this. no photo could do it's hideousness justice lol)
AFTER: blue and beige walls, gorgeous trim!
don't mind the random photoshopped shelves, I'm just trying to decide what to do up that wall.
I'm thinking of picking up a bunch of 8x10 and smaller dollar store frames and doing a fun collage on the staircase wall in between the sconces.
The blue they painted is a sky blue(right color), the sample was just a tad darker and had just the slightest hint of green in it (left color). They left me the leftover paint which is how I made this, it's the same exact color paint technically I checked the label(not that I didn't trust them! haha...). I don't know why they ended up being so different. It's still a pretty color it's just not how I had pictured it but I'll get used to it.
