More Camera Playing

I got some more lenses so I am trying them out. I really like my prime lens, but it's been so long since I've used a zoom that I am coming to the realization that they tend to fall short of the picture quality I am used to. This is the second zoom I've tried and it seems like unless I want to spend $2000 it's just not going to have near as good of picture quality as my primes, but when chasing around children it is much more convenient. So do I sacrifice picture quality for convenience? Tough.
