Normal day - oatmeal for breakfast Today - screaming for breakfast and a time out and an hour later finally eating after many...MANY... "sowy"s and "pwees oameal"
Normal day - hang out and watch cartoons for an hour Today - head to the VET, when it was time to go I asked for the Vet's toy back which he tugged and fought me on and then finally relinquishing it ran over and whacked his head on the wall in protest. In front of the whole waiting room. Then kicked and screamed in my arms, all the way through 3 lanes of the parking lot (one of which he threw his toy in and it was lost) until finally reaching the curb by the car where we did a makeshift time out. and of course my heart breaks as he sobbingly says "sorry mommy, i'm sorry" and runs over to hug me. Sigh.
Normal day - I drink my drink and Aiden drinks his Today - Aiden snatches my cup and runs off and dumps it. On the couch. And the floor. What!??! He never does stuff like that, who is this child!?
Normal day - the Garbage can is for garbage Today - The garbage was for dumping over and sticking his box of oats in. Half full box of oats.
So after some tears from both of us I put Aiden down for a nap and decided to focus on what he's done that's been good today because it has just been one of those days...
At least he says sorry when he knows he messed up...even if he goes back to doing it 2 minutes later.
He says please and thank you even if he does ask for the same thing 20 million times after I said no
He cuddles me on the couch when he knows I'm sad(or exploding from frustration with him)
Not to mention he loves reading. I go to put him down for a nap and realized I have succeeded in one of my goals. Growing up reading was a big thing in the Thompson house, we were never wanting for books and made frequent trips to the library whether for story time, crafts or just picking up some more books. I still love reading today and it was always a goal for me to inspire a love of reading in my kids. Every day we read to Aiden before his nap and before bed (and sometimes in between). He loves it and if he gets in trouble and loses his story for bedtime he is absolutely crushed (almost to the point that I want to give in and read one anyways. Almost.)
He gets pretty excited about it.
(reading and photographing at the same time is not an easy task. I should win an award or something.)
Recently he has started asking for the book after we're done reading (with a "pweeeese book" I might add) and then flips through the pages pointing out the things he can name and pretending to read to us. It's my favorite when he mimicks us asking him what something is. "Mommy, what's this?"
Even though I'm still a bit sore at him for being such a stink this morning, these pictures make me smile and depict what will always be some of my favorite times with him at this age.
